                                            Hello Everyone!
I know its been AAAAAGES since Ive blogged. Shame Shame Shame!!
No, I havent been crafting too much lately and Ive wrapped my sewing projects up for the winter too. But I will try to take pictures next time I create something so you don't think Ive totally left the land of the living. :)

One thing I wanted to mention was that for some time Ive been writing reviews on the books Ive read. It helps me remember what I read and also recall whether its a book I can recommend for YA or what. I read too much to remember all this without writing down my thoughts as I go.

Sooo, for a couple of years I reviewed books on Amazon, then discovered Goodreads (which I loooove) and now I decided, hey, why not just make another blog to run in tandem with my craft blog. I didn't want them to share the same space cos that just wouldn't be fair on either one.

Anyway, if you are interested in checking it out, its here at JustOneMorePage. Don't feel pressured to follow. Its there if you want to.

BY the way, I like clean reads so my book choices reflect that and I like to add a CONTENT check for SEX/LANGUAGE/VIOLENCE etc giving books a TV rating.

Hope everyone is enjoying this winter weather!

Sew How Are You?

 Hi Guys!
So once again, its been a long time.:)
Ive been busy, not with cards but other home projects. Thought I'd share a few with you, you know, just so you don't think I'm a total slack off! I haven't read the whole winter!! lol
So above are some napkins I made. At some point it struck me how many paper towels we use and I thought it was a bit ridiculous. I mean, think of how many trees we chop down making cards! We don't need to be cutting them down to wipe up every spill and wipe our fingers too, right? So I got out my fabric bin of scraps left over from other projects and got cutting.
Some people I know would cringe to find out that my napkins are not identical in size. The point of it was to use scraps, so some are about 14x14 and others 12x18, you get the idea.
Below is one of my favorite napkins, I just LOVE this fabric!!

I hand hemmed the edges of all my dressy napkins cos I wanted to be proud of them. I was feeling kind of "Mary Jane". :)

And below are my more utilitarian white napkins for everyday use. These I didn't care about so much, (they're actually feedsack towels cut down so I only had to hem two sides on each one) so I machine hemmed them. Besides, there were twenty of them!!
THis was kind of a fun project, took me about 10-15 minutes.
A clothes peg bag.
I had a bag of clothes going to the second hand shop and decided to upcycle one of the shirts in it.
It was a nice shirt, I just got tired of holding it closed with safety pins. lol
Sooooo, I just cut the arms off and snipped the bottom and sew serged it all into a pouch. When its all full of clothes pins it looks almost human. Sort of. :)

And below is some washing  detergent I found a recipe for on Pinterest. It works excellent and this was actually my second batch so you know it works.

 A close up:

And the recipe if you care to try it yourself:
4 pounds washing soda
4 pounds baking soda
4 pounds Borax
3 bars of Zote (or other laundry bar soap, grated)
Simply mix well all together.
Use about 2 tablespoons per load. (top loading machine)

And one more soapy recipe. This was my first time making dishwasher detergent. It was kind of exciting. :)
1 cup Borax
1 cup washing soda
1/2 cup Kosher Salt (or epsom salt)
1/2 cup citric acid
For this one you need to keep the mix uncovered for a couple of days and stir it now and then. The citric acid causes some clumping so you need to keep it moving til it all dries out. Alternatively you could throw a silicone packet in the mix.
I use the same amount of this powder as I would store bought.

And one other thing!
I did NOT MAKE this kindle cover but it is so stinkin cute I wanted to give a shout out to the lady who did. You can find her here on Etsy her shop name is CasePhile.
Just love this and her workmanship is impeccable.
LAST ONE - Sale- Kindle Fire Case "Retro Quail" (Kindle, Nook, Sony, Kobo, Pandigital, Velocity)
OK, thats it for now!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Its been a while...

 Hi Guys,
I know its been a loooong time since Ive posted. Truth is I havent made a card in a couple of months. Just having a bit of a break for the winter. So thank all of you who decided to hang with me even while Ive been away from Blogland.
THis week's challenge at Mo's is to post your favorite Mo card of 2012. I couldn't miss that opportunity even though Im cutting it very close in getting this in.
THis was probably my fave card, the coloring came out just how I wanted and it was one of those rare cards youre pretty much 100%  happy with when its done. A rare occurance!!

OK, so its not crafty but in case youve been wondering what Ive been doing lately, Ive been doing some "house projects", nothing exciting per se but just things that have been a bit neglected lately.
Let me show you what I mean:
Here's my sideboard which has been scratched up for quite some time. Ive been meaning to refinish it but just havent got around to it:

Well, I still havent refinished it but I decided to try out some "Old English" scratch remover to see if it would temporarily 'improve' it. Here's the result:

You gotta admit thats pretty awesome! Here's a close up:
So I decided the refinishing could wait, thats pretty close to perfect!
So theeeen I got to thinking, hey my kitchen floor is pretty awful why not try it on that? So I bought some Old English Scratch Remover in LIGHT and I'll show you how that went.
First, here is the before:
You can see that the original finish is almost completely worn away. The floor really needs to be stripped but I cant do it in the winter so this is to "hold it over" til warm weather comes and I can do without my kitchen for a week or so. (not sure when that will be!).

And below is the after picture:
Yes, still a little rough but the color is more uniform so at first glance it looks not too bad.

OK, are you ready for a "Pinstrocity??" Me too!
Have any of you read about the super duper way to boil eggs in the oven? The claim is that the eggs come out tastier, are easier to peel etc etc etc. Well! What they neglected to mention was this: that the eggs also scorch in the muffin tin and end up with brown spots all over them!
Here's the Pinterest picture that inspired me:

Who knew?

And here's my reality:
Anyone for some ugly eggs?
And by the way, they do NOT peel easier and they do NOT taste tastier either.
So there.
Well thats what's been happening here, thanks for visiting!!

A "Pin"teresting Time

OK, so its been almost a month with no card to show you.
It feels .....GREAT!! lol
As you know, I'm having a little break from cardmaking to work on some other projects/hobbies that have been neglected while my nose was deep in paper.
So what's been happening?
Well, I discovered Pinterest for one. :) I mean, I'd visited Pinterest before but in the last month or so I have had opportunity to really see what it was all about and let me tell you~ Where has it been all my life!
How on earth did we ever even perform a simple chore like take out the garbage before Pinterest? There is a household hint for everything!!
And before you pooh pooh it can I just say they are awesome ideas!!
As some of you may know, I love antiques. I even married one! lol Seriously, I have antiques laying all over the place but on Pinterest I have found some really cool ideas on re-purposing. For instance!
Below you see my antique sled table runner. Yup, you heard that right.
This sled was made in the 1800s but was missing a seat. My Dad added the seat and refinished it. Alternately you could find this sled hanging on the wall or above the kitchen cabinets. But theeeeen I found this great page on Pinterest on re-purposed table runners and my brain started turning....
C'mon is this cool is or is this cool!!
A close up...

Second project:
Hemming jeans while leaving original hem intact.
What the whaaaa??
Yup. On Pinterest. You can find this and other amazing stuff on my board "Sewing Tips".
Basically, if you need to hem four inches off your jeans you divide that measurement in half and fold your pants up 2 inches (instead of four).
Then sew around the cuff as close to the hem as you can. Then, fold the "cuff" to the inside of the jeans and tack in place.
Press. (I used my hair iron)
So here's the finished outside...

And here's the inside below...

And the best part is, you can let the hem down at any time when you need more length. All the original fabric is still there.
Of course, you could cut away that cuff and serge it if you didnt want any extra bulk.

Third Project:
Always keep your kitchen sponge dry, just add a bulldog clip and stand it up.
Tacky, yes. But hey, it works. All kinds of "Good Things To Know"  and " Household Hints" are found on Pinterest.
By the way, I know you're admiring my vintage burnt orange countertops and flange. Try not to be too jealous, I mean I know its glamorous and all but don't feel bad,  granite is nice too. lol

And speaking of the 70's....I have also been getting more use out of my crockpot.
Up til recently I used my crockpot more for keeping soup warm or cooking beans than making any real meals in it. But that has changed. I have made lasagna twice  as well as macaroni and cheese.
And they came out awesome!! I couldn't believe it!
Check out some recipes here.
I made them both for pot luck gatherings and they went so quick that by the time I got to the buffet counter there was like one spoonful left of each and everyone was raving about it.
I have no pics to show you but will try to take one next time.
OK, Ive bored you for long enough!
Hope you all enjoy the weekend.

A Little Birdie Told Me

Hi Guys!
First of all, let's get down to business. :) This week's challenge at Mo's is:
Anything Goes!
I have chosen this new stamp of Mo's called "A little Birdie Told Me". Isn't it the sweetest?

My papers are mainly MME and the brads are Basic Grey. The wooden Ornament you can find at Bunny Zoe's and the banners too.
So as you may (or may not) have noticed, I havent been as active in Blogland lately, truth be told I'm just a little burnt out. I'm taking a break from all design teams for at least the duration of the Winter and then we'll see what Spring brings.
In saying this I need to express my HUGE heartfelt thanks for Mo letting be be on her team for the last year and a half and also for allowing me keep my "foot in the door" to return when I'm ready. Mwah!
Its the best team evah!!!
While I'm taking a break from cards you may still see me from time to time here in my little corner of the world wide web sharing a craft project of some sort. I have several crafty DIY projects up my sleeve as well as my ongoing sewing adventures. I decided to close down my sewing blog and just use this current blog for all my madness. Its just simpler that way.
Many thanks for all your support in the last two years,
Keep On Crafting!

Hi GUys!

Anyway! This week's challenge at Mo's is:
Dies and/or Punches
and I decided to use Mo's image "Kite". Its been out for a few months now but this is my first time coloring it.
the papers are mostly MME and the dies are spellbinders. The sentiment is by Precious Rememberance.

I hope you can play along with us.
Thanks so much for visiting. One of these days I'll wow you with something worth visiting for but in the meantime, I hope you'll bear with me. :)
